#1 New Year’s Resolution: lose weight/get fit.

It’s March. Did you already give up? Actually THIS is the time to start!… Slowly.

Trust me that’s me every year too. But more than anything it’s about being healthy, feeling good about being in shape, plus being able to wear what I want is the reason I crave to stay active. Many do it temporarily, for a wedding, a graduation, or a reunion. I was in my best shape for my wedding, and a year later after wanting to spoil my Husband with all kinds of foods in Los Angeles – since he was fairly new to the states, working like crazy, and finishing up my Masters Degree caught up with me. I had gain about 20 lbs in just over one year! I was heavier than my usual weight I had maintained since my college years. Oh and my hubby was up there with me too.

So for 2015, back to the gym we went – slowly. Actually it was exactly in March I was more serious about it. I love working out and being active, that’s not the problem. It’s was getting myself out there and scheduling it into my day. Once a routine though, I was off. I lost almost 15lbs and I now weight what I was weighing for almost the last 9 years. How? Trust me I still struggling to maintain and keep on going but- You just have to switch your brain with activities that will make you work out and make healthy food choices. You can’t expect to lose it all in one week, it’s a process, a lifestyle.

Get in the workout mindset; these are the changes I made that helped me:

1. Buy some new workout gear to motivate you: shoes, clothes, a new gym bag, a fitbit, whatever is going to make you feel good and at the same time guilty that you have to make us of it.
2. Join a gym you feel comfortable in! Try different clubs until you like the vibe and make sure it has a variety of equipment and classes that you’re looking for.
3. Read about fitness. Look up workouts articles or videos. I loved the Runners magazines which helped me improve my time in training for a 5k.
4. Join a class and don’t miss! The instructor should know you by your name – that way it’s harder to miss when you know he/she will be expecting you 😉
5. Try adding hikes or other outdoors activities to your weekends. It’ll be a fun and easy way to stay active and burning calories. I personally like to hike or swim to switch it up.
6. Sign up for a 5k! Training for a goal is always the best and you’ll see your progress in the end.
7. And lastly, eat in moderation. You can eat out put opt for places that don’t have fried foods you’ll be tempted to order. For example, a Greek restaurant has foods rich in protein and add a salad to your meal.

Salut World!

I set up this space to share with you my interest, experiences, maybe inspire you, bring to you news that interest me, trends, but also just to blab about my daily shenanigans.

I’ve wanted to start a blog for some time now, but when I’m about to start I always doubt
myself. Why would anyone be interested in what I have to say, or do. But then again like Mindy Kaling book title “Why Not Me?” to connect with others alike.

My story? I’m in my late twenties, born in Mexico City, but grew up in West LA, raised by an incredibly hard working single mother, the youngest but first to attend college, my siblings are ten plus years older and so it wasn’t easy to connect with them growing up. My mother didn’t get the chance to go to grade school or really learned to speak English in her 25 years of living in the States – partly because there are so many Hispanics in LA she could always get by, but I still managed to pursue a career in engineering, and got a Master’s Degree. In the ways of life I also found love. I married a handsome Swiss man, I get to call my best friend and biggest motivator.

The reason I tell you my background is to show you it wasn’t easy to get to where I am but it didn’t stop me from pushing forward. So if you’re reading this and you’re struggling in any way, don’t give up! Obstacles/limitations shouldn’t handicap your future, if anything it should make you stronger and humble. Your future is what you make out of it, no excuses. I am now living the life I’ve worked hard to have. I have the privilege to travel, buy myself anything (well except a Porch :P), and help my family out- when necessary.

And when I’ll share where I eat, where I’ve been or what I buy is not to show case my spendings. I’m just living my life as I want and how ever it makes me happy. Maybe you discover something new with my post, maybe you follow me because we have common interests/style, or maybe I teach you something new. At least that’s my hope.

What are some of my interest? I love sweets and spicy foods, love to travel, photography, I go head over heels, love my tea, beer and wine, try to stay on top of current events in regards to politics, technology, books, movies, the stock market, fashion, follow the sports that matter and because of my husband, tennis too (damn you Roger Federer), love the outdoors and fitness, but not to be “skinny” but to be thick, tone and healthy – I’ll be the person to order a kale salad but also a side of fries because at the end of the day life is too short, you have to do what makes you happy and satisfies your taste buds.

I hope you do tune in!
