#1 New Year’s Resolution: lose weight/get fit.

It’s March. Did you already give up? Actually THIS is the time to start!… Slowly.

Trust me that’s me every year too. But more than anything it’s about being healthy, feeling good about being in shape, plus being able to wear what I want is the reason I crave to stay active. Many do it temporarily, for a wedding, a graduation, or a reunion. I was in my best shape for my wedding, and a year later after wanting to spoil my Husband with all kinds of foods in Los Angeles – since he was fairly new to the states, working like crazy, and finishing up my Masters Degree caught up with me. I had gain about 20 lbs in just over one year! I was heavier than my usual weight I had maintained since my college years. Oh and my hubby was up there with me too.

So for 2015, back to the gym we went – slowly. Actually it was exactly in March I was more serious about it. I love working out and being active, that’s not the problem. It’s was getting myself out there and scheduling it into my day. Once a routine though, I was off. I lost almost 15lbs and I now weight what I was weighing for almost the last 9 years. How? Trust me I still struggling to maintain and keep on going but- You just have to switch your brain with activities that will make you work out and make healthy food choices. You can’t expect to lose it all in one week, it’s a process, a lifestyle.

Get in the workout mindset; these are the changes I made that helped me:

1. Buy some new workout gear to motivate you: shoes, clothes, a new gym bag, a fitbit, whatever is going to make you feel good and at the same time guilty that you have to make us of it.
2. Join a gym you feel comfortable in! Try different clubs until you like the vibe and make sure it has a variety of equipment and classes that you’re looking for.
3. Read about fitness. Look up workouts articles or videos. I loved the Runners magazines which helped me improve my time in training for a 5k.
4. Join a class and don’t miss! The instructor should know you by your name – that way it’s harder to miss when you know he/she will be expecting you 😉
5. Try adding hikes or other outdoors activities to your weekends. It’ll be a fun and easy way to stay active and burning calories. I personally like to hike or swim to switch it up.
6. Sign up for a 5k! Training for a goal is always the best and you’ll see your progress in the end.
7. And lastly, eat in moderation. You can eat out put opt for places that don’t have fried foods you’ll be tempted to order. For example, a Greek restaurant has foods rich in protein and add a salad to your meal.
